gear shifter...need suggestions

Hi guys ;-) lemme explain this... I'm using 3drad 6.15 and I want to simulate a gear shifter but I don't exactly know the right gears calculation to apply.. any help ?? I will really appreciate also other gearbox programming related suggestions..something like simple simulations or whatever else ;-) Thanx in advance Best Regards ;-) PS: sorry for any error...my english sux...so...take it in mind if you'll reply...:-P

I dont understand. What do you mean by a gear shifter?

Gears are simple torque/speed multiplers. For gear shifters, do you mean a clutch? or a limited slip differential assembly?

anyways..I mean...the WHOLE GEARBOX
I need to make a vehicle simulation...I want that if I press the ACCELERATOR KEY and the gearbox is in N position ,it will increase RPM ,if RELEASED they will decrease and the vehicle will NOT MOVE..BUT If I INSERT A GEAR the TORQUE provided to the WHEELS must be changed according to the gear selected...
I dunno how to make it..my engine permits ansi-C scripts (it uses the angelcode library) but any language that you want to use is good for my needs..I can easly understand them..I don't even have sound problems regarding this stuff..my only problem is the gearbox logic..that's all ;-)

help !!! :-P

so the whole transmission then...

it's complicated to do everything in one go, but here goes...

ignoring the free reving, and the clutch always engaged, the gearbox acts as a torque multiplier / rev reduction.

lets say :
1st gear, ratio of 5.0
2nd gear, ratio 4.0
3nd gear, ratio 3.0
4nd gear, ratio 2.0
5nd gear, ratio 1.0

The final rear drive has a fix ratio of 3.0

The wheels have a radius of 20 cm.

The engine, at maximum throttle, has an output of 50 N.m

The engine rev is 3,000 rpm = 314 rad / s
you are in 2nd gear

-> wheel angular vel = 314 / (4.0 * 3.0) = 26 rad / s
-> wheel torque = 50 * (4 * 3) = 600 N/m
-> speed on the contact patch = 5.2 m/s = 20 km / h
-> Force at the contact patch = 120 Newtons

-> add force to integration to move the car forward.
-> calculate new car velocity
-> set the wheel linear velocity to the same value
-> calculate the wheel angular velocity (w = v / r)
-> new engine RPM.
