d3dx8.drawtext somehow gets transformed?!

Hi. The text appears as a blank black rectangle. It's also transformed by the view/world/proj matrices and is not flat on the screen like it should be. In some cases it's ok, but I can't tell why. Also causes a memory leak. Any ideas? 'Make the font Set g_d3dx = New D3DX8 Dim MiddleFont As IFont Set MiddleFont = frmModel.Vispic.Font Set AxisFont = g_d3dx.CreateFont(g_D3DDevice, MiddleFont.hFont) 'In the beginscene/endscene layernamestring = "244 hlkhlkun8oj7u8n79 " TextRect.Top = 0 TextRect.Left = Colorkeyleft TextRect.Bottom = 20 TextRect.Right = TextRect.Left + 100 g_d3dx.DrawText AxisFont, &HFF000000, layernamestring, TextRect, DT_CENTER This is with dx8 in vb6. DrawText should be really simple, how can anything go wrong?
