OpenGL glut, what are the limitations?

hello, i have an Opengl project using c++ on windows mobile and i don't want to use winapi mfc whatever for window handling etc. i am in search of a nice widget. the application will have one window and there will be a few menus attached to it. also the app. will talk to other processes, there will be multiple threads of execution. i need to provide text input in the menus, for instance the user will choose to load a different file. i really wonder how one would get text input from user, using glut. glutKeyboardFunc gets one key stroke at a time. what i need is like in console using std::cin>>filename. any suggestions? thanks in advance
