Advice needed on education/career path ?:(
Currently im studying a BTEC in games development and tbh im really dissapointed with the course, I want to specialise in game programming and learn that, however, the course content for the next 2 years as it turns out is learning fine art and developing skills in that area bummer for me, im alright a drawer to be fair and developing the skills steadily
Though thats not the direction I want to be going and wont be going until I pass this course, get onto the HND version of it and then they teach programming
"Am i wasting my time" is my question, basiclly 2 years to learn fine art and get to grips with 3dsMax to then yes further develop those skills with the HND but then get to do programming....
Im tempted to drop out and work till next september and take up a software engineering course but i do enjoy the course im on even if it is in the wrong direction for the moment.
Im 19 and already done a few years of college with GNVQ ICT, BTEC ICT and a bunch of As's
I did drop the BTEC ICT but that was at the end of the first year and because it had all been business, i did then study As business... go figuire... lol
Anyways im not getting any younger and i think my parent is getting pissy at what to him seems like im bumming about when im not im pretty focused and am always considering my next move. Basiclly my question/s is/are:
a) Finish the BTEC and go to uni, without having done previous college experience of C++ to then try to learn C++ there, however will they accept that and teach me with no college background of programming since this course im on is all art and 3dsMax. I mean with this BTEC in Games Development, at uni can I say "okay Ive done this please teach me programming *grovels*" lol
b) Finish BTEC go to HND which is more of the same but with a bit of programming thrown in then do Uni, however this has a high risk due to another 2 years of college after this, I may not have the financial support ive been oh so taking advantage of these past years lol
c) Drop out now, work till september, learn what i can in spare time and join ANOTHER course that teaches programming at BTEC level (dont really want to have this option as a definate just an idea to fall back on if a and b cant/wont go to plan lol
Any ideas people????

UK Universities can't expect all to have experience programming.
A lot of places don't offer any sort of programming course until degree level it's ridiculous in my opinion.
Only thing you really can do is self-teach a little C#, python or something to give yourself a boost into programming.
Cheers man, I found this site while knocking back cups of coffee on a late one with well everything i could possibly imagine on programming lol
http://www.jimmyr.com/free_education.php
it is the holy grail of well everything, aka its gods toilet and its not pretty lol worth checking out to well everyone lol
Video courses filmed from within courses at degree level that essentially bar 1 or 2 missing vids from a years archive, essentially what is there is pretty much a year of uni for each and for free!!! lol well worth checking out
Im definately going to be making use of this in all my spare time,
primary focus is to get this course out the way
then
to getting back on track with programming lol
