Don't cross post. It's bad form and people get banned for it.

I got a four year degree from DigiPen, and it's really not the big "exclusive club" that people seem to think it is. What will it take to get in? Decent grades, an application, and the motivation to succeed. My grades in high school were below the "requirement", but I was accepted based on the entrance interview.

What will it cost? The tuition costs about $50,000 over the course of four years, but there are also living expenses to worry about. There's no way you can work a steady job and succeed at DigiPen, especially in the later years.

The biggest question is, do you want to go to DigiPen? It's a great school to learn how to program games, but that's all you learn. How to program them. Graphics, sound, physics, and limited AI : if coding is your thing, DigiPen will get you there. However, if you'd rather get into games doing design, production, or anything on the business side then DigiPen is not the right school for you.

Good luck!

From someone who works in the industry (as a programmer), I really would avoid any college that specialises in games programming. It really isn't worth it, and it won't give you any particular advantage over other candidates if you have ability. Get a decent degree in CS/Comp Eng, that shows you're capable of learning and understand the fundamentals of computing, then apply for graduate jobs in the industry.

Game programming isn't really the exclusive club it's made out to be. Getting a job (in the UK at least) is not hard if you have a degree and you have some amount of talent.

The best way to learn to make games is simply to make them. If you're really interested in working in games then you'll be doing that anyway.

Yea if your in your 3rd year, and you want to go from scratch at digipen for another 4 years, then thats dumb. I would consider possibly the masters degree. Are you trying to work here or there. Its dumb to come here for schoool just too work back there.

If you really wanna go to Digipen then you should contact them, they'll give you all the information you need.

I am a programmer in the industry and we have hired a couple people straight out of Digipen. We have also hired people straight out of state universities. Just about any good CS degree will do, and then your own determination and talent will get you where you need to be.

If you are about to finish a CS degree the best thing you could do is go get a game job with it. You'll get experience and more important probably figure out what you are really interested in. And that can help you both in your career and any Grad work you might consider.

As for the GRE scores... I didn't see it on their page. I may have missed it, but you could email or call their main office to ask. Usually (and this is a blanket statement) 1100+ is considered ok for grad school, but 1350+ is preferred (from my experience... but that was in "hard sciences" and not Gaming Universities, so it's probably very different.) But they usually look at tons of other factors in addition to your GRE score.
