Hi, I bored of rolling my own file interpreters! :) Can anyone suggest a free lib out there which can be used to load variables into an app, sort of line an .ini file in windows? XML may be one answer, since I could have a tree, eg: Display > Size > Width Display > Size > Height Display > Colours Threadpool > maxThreads I'd like a way to be able to load a file as an object then request variables (if they exist, or null if not). Must be loads out there... what do you do? Thanks Simon

Are you using any other libraries? It seems like every other programming library for *nix has some sort of settings mechanism built into it. For example Qt has QSettings.

There are Windows API functions for reading ini files. Look here at the functions named GetPrivateProfilexxxx near the bottom of the page. They aren't fast or portable, but they are very convenient.
