Hi, At the moment i am using texCUBElod to select which mip level to use but this is only supported by ps 3.0. Is there another way of doing this without limiting hardware support (ps 2.0 minimum is ok). I looked at texCUBEgrad but i am not sure if this is exactly what i want and i am a bit confused on how to implement it this way. Thanks in advance P.S - (if this helps) this is for specular environment maps so the mip level needs to be selected based on the specular power. If anyone has any better ideas on doing this then i would appreciate any suggestions.

2 alternatives I could think of is send the cube-map pixel to a blur filter, with the blur size being some factor of the specular power.

Or, lookup 2 cube-maps.. use that Ati CubeGen to create a severely blurred copy of the crisp one. In the shader, it could then be as simple as lerp(crispCube, blurCube, specPower);
