Argh, game will work on my PC's but not on others....
All of my programs I create on VC 2005 Express Edition work comlpetely fine. (Note my programs are cross-platform). However, when I send my programs to another computer, say a work computer, or just one of my friend's computers, I get this message:
"The application has failed to start because the application configuration are incorrect. Re-installing this application may fix this problem."
It is starting to get very, very, VERY irritating.
Also note that all tested computers so far are on the Microsoft XP OS.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
~PCN
That error is extremely frustrating. The easy way to solve it, is to change from dynamic linking to static, by using /MT. It can be found in the properties dialog, at C++ -> Code Generation -> Runtime library.
Your end users probably don't have the libraries that your program might require. This happened to me the other day, downloading the SP1 VC runtime libraries fixed it.
That is a frustrating error to get, PCN, particularly because the message gives 0 information as to the problem, and doesn't hint at the search term in the documentation. This issue falls under "SxS" or "Side by Side". Google for more information.
But really, that doesn't explain much either. The actual problem: your program depends on prewritten code: libraries from Microsoft and the compiler, including the C and C++ runtime. You could link your program statically. But this isn't necessarily a possible idea (especially me, since a number of my programs are built to link dynamically).
So to link dynamically: either have your user install the visual C++ redistributable, or you copy the necessary dlls in the vc redist directory of your compiler. Copy it to wherever your program executable is.
