Hi, this is probably a very noob question but I have spent ages snooping around MSDN and microsoft downloads trying to find what download I need to fix my issue. I have recently started making a game with a friend. I am using Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition. Whenever I compile the programs(as release) and send them to him to run he gets the error "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect". After snooping around and all I can find is that it is an issue with my compiler not being compatable with Vista and that I need to patch my compiler. The answer is probably right under my noes and sorry for such a noob question, thanks in advanced.

Try adding

#define _WIN32_WINNT 0x0600

to the start of your code

If your friend does not have Visual C++ 2008 express installed this may be the problem since the appropriate runtime dlls are missing.

In your VC++ installation there has to be a "redist" folder where there are the runtime libraries you need to include with your application. You basically just have to copy the folder "Microsoft.VC90.CRT" into the same folder as your executable lies in and redistribute that along with it. Then everything should work fine.
