VC++ 2008 Express help system - broken links everywhere

I'm trying to get started working with an actual IDE, and VC++ express is giving me nothing but headaches. I made a fresh install today, and chose not to install the MSDN express library, since I can access the help docs online. However, the majority of the links I try inside Microsoft Document Viewer are simply broken - I get a page saying that the link was not found. I've triple checked my online help settings - it's set to check online help first, then local. Also, the RSS feed on the start page doesn't show for some reason. I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit, if that matters. I need help with this badly. I've had the same problem on a different system, a laptop running the same OS. Any ideas?
