Simple question? I was wondering, do most people calculate the normals of objects outside the shader and let the shader handle the coloring, calculate and handle the coloring outside of the shader, or do everything inside the shader? I'm not looking for the quickest or prettiest result, just something in between.

In all the examples Ive seen so far the program supplies the vertex normals to the shader, usually you work on an object format from a 3d software wich exports the normals as well anyway. All the rotation / scaling / transformation is usually done with the gpu though. Hope I answered your question. Important thing is to get it working though, can always optimize things later :) imho
