I know there are many ways to done that, like 2000/NT/XP could use WMI, phdxxx functions, and 98 reads registry, linux read /proc file content. But is there a portable method done this in lower level? like retrieve number of cores of cpu by execute instruction 'cpuid'. Thanks a lot.
