Alternative to spherical coordinates?

Hello, For my current research project, I find myself querying a function that takes a plane as input. I need to encode this function in a 3D texture and what I do is to use the spherical coordinates for the plane-normal and the plane.d as texcoords. However, since I can't have infinite resolution on my 3d texture (in fact it has to be kept quite small) I would like to find a more uniformly distributed 3-coord representation of a plane. Is there anyone here (with better math skills than me) who could suggest something I should try? Thank you, Erik Sintorn
