shader instancing a mesh

im i want to do shader instancing on a mesh ive loaded from a model file... i draw it with "DrawSubset".... but im clueless how i should render it for instancing in a good way...? do i have to get the vertex/indexbuffer from the loaded model and modify it... or is there another way?

There's a topic in the DirectX SDK titled, "Efficiently Drawing Multiple Instances of Geometry". It should have all the information you need.
