Gradient calculation on mesh vertex

Hi all, I have one question. I have got a triangle mesh. I need to calculate the gradient of some mesh vertex. How to calculate it? Actually I can calculate the gradient as interpolating the mesh to smooth surface and calculate the gradient on this smooth surface but I don't want to do all this interpolation stuff. I need discrete algorithm, which averages the gradient. Thanks in advance.
