OpenGL Issues with Fullscreen + Alt-Tab in NeHe tutorials

The reason I ask is because my own OpenGL functions are based on the NeHe samples. I have a couple projects that work fine with the exception of this problem. Why is it that the NeHe tutorials will handle alt-tab in windowed mode perfectly, but in fullscreen mode, the resolution will remain in the program's display mode and the frame will keep being drawn even if you call ChangeDisplaySettings(NULL, 0) when your window procedure gets a WM_ACTIVATE message? Is there an easy way to fix this so that the resolution changes back to desktop, the window minimizes properly and the program stops drawing?
