new sound design tool for animal voices

Hallo, I think my latest software may interest many of you, so please forgive me for mentioning it :) Fauna is a physical model of a mammalian vocal tract - eg. a synthesizer that can sound like animals. listen to a demo mp3 - http://www.breathcube.com/vst/nature/fauna_animals.mp3 How? It's a waveguide model, meaning it uses short delay lines to model acoustic transmission. The tract can be resized from ~5cm to 10m, and is perhaps a convenient way to voice abstract creatures. I apologize for posting this myself and will not spam this forum. IMO this tool offers a previously unknown solution for producing sound effects. It's free to download, however a donation (suggested $33) gets you 107 presets instead of 16. The manual provides easy instructions for use if you aren't familiar with VST. My homepage is http://www.xoxos.net Best regards, Rurik.

Very interesting tool! Thanks for sharing! Are there any restrictions for use? This might be the perfect tool for a massive project I'm involved with.

Thanks,

Commercial use does require the purchase of a license. Other conditions are noted in the pdf, eg. no reselling on ebay as "freeware harvesting service" et c.

This was intended for 'musical' applications with low cpu. As a media voicing tool, it could probably use more segments. At the present five, some patches are serendipitous and shaping the tract is not so intuitive for the casual user.
Hey, thanks a lot!
This is a pretty cool tool. I might even make a donation if I use it a lot!
I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase this product. A few questions first:

1) With the $33 donation (which I'll gladly pay) is there any limitation on the number of computers I can use this on?

2) One thing I'd really like to do is use this plugin with spoken dialogue and make it sound like a parrot. Are there any presets build for a parrot sound? I also feel this product could be very useful for other audio editing.

Thanks and keep up the great work! I rated you up!

Thanks,

Nathan

None. The license clause is primarily to inhibit people reselling freeware on ebay.

I think patching something resembling a parrot squawk would be fairly easy, however you'd probably have to patch each squawk separately. There are seven bird presets, one of which uses fm to create a 'caw' which might be a good starting point. i can send you the .fpx preset if you'd like.

The model is too primitive for speech. I'd suggest using a formant/fft processor, perhaps dtblkfx (freeware) and a voice talent with attitude.

:D

In a similar vein, I just released 'Virtual Machine,' which is included in a Fauna donation.

I used this vsti when you first published it in KVR (I think :P) and I was kinda impressed with it. The free presets are not that good, but with enough tweaking and a lot of fx it can sound decent, for a synth.

Good job and continue the good work man.
