Helo, I'm wondering if it's possible for a vertex shader to get the buffer index of the vertex it's working on. I'm using the directx effects object and can use up to shader modal 3. Thanks.

You can't get D3D to give you the index, but you can pass it in yourself. You can add an extra element to hold the index to your vertex format, and fill each vertex with the appropriate index. I suppose you could make it as a second stream containing only indices, and use it across all your geometry, saving some space.
