using resources

i'm using direct x, and i still haven't figured out how to actually use resources. all i know is how to change my exe icon. i want to be able to embed textures and models into my exe file. how am i supposed to do that? is it just as easy as loading them from a file outside the exe? im afraid i might have to change more of my code to use the resource bitmaps instead of just loading them from a file

I've never used it, but along with D3DXCreateTextureFromFile, D3DXCreateTextureFromFileInMemory, etc, there is D3DXCreateTextureFromResource. The docs tell you how you can use non-bmp format resources too.

Create shaders, D3DXEffects, etc, all have similar calls.
