I don't have much experience with using Hibernate but the idea is pretty sweet. I wondered if it is an appropriate tool for a MMO server, which obviously has a lot of DB work to do? [Edited by - d000hg on February 13, 2008 5:24:34 AM]

What do you mean? Sadly Google's top result for 'hibernate mmo' was this very thread, so that didn't shed any light on the matter. Are you talking about the Java object/relational library?

Object/relational mappers basically give you more convenience at the expense of speed. Hibernate is just one among many, and they're all pretty much the same. I expect some use some sort of thing like this (we have something in-house), and some just write the SQL themselves. And how well it works for you will depend on your access patterns and the structure of the data. So the answer is, "maybe".
