OpenGL Point rendering

hi, can anyone tell me how to render a point cloud in opengl..? does opengl have implicit support for point rendering..? thank you.

It does support point rendering, they don't behave like typical primitives though. If points don't work out as expected then you might find rendering textured quads is more suited to your needs.

thank you but am actually new to opengl. I tried to display points using GL_POINTS but all i get is a blank screen. can you give me any further information or the coding format for displaying points...
this is my display function

glBegin(GL_POINTS);
glPointSize(3.0);

glEnable(GL_POINT_SMOOTH);

glEnable(GL_BLEND);
glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA);

glColor3f(1.0f,0.0f,0.0f);

for (int i=0;i<1000;i++)
{
glVertex3f(x,y,z); }

glEnd();
