I am working on an warlord clone using opengl. I have already done some 2-d graphics to setup the game.I need to move the paddles and a ball and some collision detection when the ball impacts the castle walls. I am unsure of how to proceed.

Collision Detection articles (most are 3D but some are 2D):

Collision Detection

Input handling articles:

I couldn't find any good articles within 20 seconds of searching, so I'll leave you with this thread Windows input

You could also look into DirectInput (there should be tons of articles on it), or you could use something else (I think SDL does input, but I've never used it myself) if you're not targetting windows.

Once you've got input working it should be trivial to hook it up to your paddles.

Don't use DirectInput, Deprecated.

Just handle the windows messages or use GetAsyncKeyState

Also, MS themselves never wanted you to use directinput for keyboard/mouse input in the first place, since for them it's just a wrapper around standard windows input.
