Effect Begin/End - Flags

Out of D3DXFX_DONOTSAVESTATE, D3DXFX_DONOTSAVESAMPLERSTATE, D3DXFX_DONOTSAVESHADERSTATE, Which flags would I be using for ID3DXEffect->Begin(...)? When rendering with the debug runtime, I get lots of: Ignoring Redundant SetXXXState Is it very neccessary/important to get rid of all these warning?

It's not very important, and you can dial down the warnings on the debug runtime to not see these messages. They do indicate a potential performance problem, but assuming you're rather new to Direct3D, I'd say that you have more important things to deal with.

I have to disagree. My experience is that any warning ignored is a problem that must be dealt with later when it's harder to find and harder to fix.

I suggest that you determine why you're getting the warning and fix the problem now. The time spent understanding what you're doing (right or wrong) is invaluable time.

Regarding you original question, which flags you should be using, depends on why you're using them.
