Blender and md2

Over the last couple days I've read numerous tutorials about creating .md2 files, and I thought I had the process down. However, I've tried a few different .md2 viewers to test it and none of them seem to render the texture on the object. They all require that I use a .pcx file. The problem is when I load a .pcx image in Blender, it doesn't recognize the image. What am I missing here?
