Massive Alternative

Hi, i am a independent film dev. As you know we are not on the budgets like universal and momentum pictures. I am trying to create a greek battle of marathon and i have researched for AI battle software. I stumbled along massive which was used in the 300 and in Lotr. Its abit out of my budget does anyone know of a cheaper or even free simialar piece of software? Cheers Ben P.S fancy helping join the team! e-mail me studious512@googlemail.com

3dsmax Biped has crowd simulations, though nowhere near the level of what Massive can do. Only used it very briefly since it isn't much use for game development. The alternative is to try to use something like Unreal3 to do it.

Another suggestion: think about making some custom art for Medieval 2 Total War, and using the replay editor to render it out for your film... with good post-processing and high-quality original art, it may look good enough for your purposes.

Really, though, there is a reason you didn't see CG battles done much before LotR/Massive.

I wouldn't use blender's game features for that, but what I would use is it's python scripting, if you have someone who can handle that kind of thing.
