Hi guys, Newb question here. Trying to figure out what sound would be used for a loop for bullet whizzes in stead of one shot samples. I need bullet whizz loops for a game I'm working on the doppler effect will be handled in the engine. I'm new to game design so if anyone can shed some light on how this is generally handled I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Joshua

Can you clarify what you mean by it not being a one-shot sample?

Based on what you described, I would create a longer sample in which I layer different bullet samples (or create different samples by using pitch-shift) and then pan them across the stereo field to make it sound like they're coming from different directions.

You can use EQ on the different tracks, too, to make some sound near and some sound far away.

Hope this helps!

The way our game engine is set up, to simulate the sound of a bullet whizzing by it requires loops. The reason I ask is because I can't imagine a loop accurately emulating (with doppler) the sound of a bullet whizzing by. So I figured other companies must be using bullet passbys as well. So if you could tell me how you might handle this effect it could shed some light on this subject.

Thanks
Joshua
I think you can come quite far with the doppler effect. Have you tried the doppler from the waves series? (not the cheapest plugings, but they are very nice. I use them as well in my studio).

You can control here the complete route and timing in this plugin. You can find info at: http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=244
