Hello, Im wondering how or if its even possible to somehow detect the graphics card's vendor (ATI, NVidia, ect..) using opengl (or maybe some other, easy to use API)? Along the same lines, is there any way to check if shader model 3+ is supported? Thanks

SM 3 isn't really an OGL concept. You can get information about supported shader functionality by examining the ogl version and extension strings. What do you want to do with the info?

Quote:

Yeah, use glGetString(GL_VENDOR)

Ah, thanks that works great

For the SM3, i just want to make sure things like dynamic branching, 4 render targets, and large shader lengths are supported

Well there's glGetString with GL_SHADING_LANGUAGE_VERSION. IIRC large shader lengths and dynamic branching are required by GLSL. There's probably a seperate extension you need to test for for multiple render targets, but I don't know what it is off the top of my head.

Edit: I think you want to test for the ARB_draw_buffers extension.
