Hello, Is it possible to make a window displaying opengl transparent? I know that using the windows ws_ex_transparent doesnt make it transparent because, I believe, it works on the gdi level... Is it possible with Vista? Can I somehow acces the opengl buffer before showing the window (drawing opengl into it, not to the screen) and save it to an image and display it on a standard window? I just need to fade in the opengl window. thanks.

WS_EX_TRANSPARENT does not really make a window transparent. It simply tells a window not to draw its background under most circumstances and allows mouse clicks to filter through to the window underneath.

If you want to fade in the window, try setting its window exstyle to include WS_EX_LAYERED. Then call SetLayeredWindowAttributes in a loop to change the alpha value from 0 to 255 smoothly, thus fading in your window.
