Looks like making graphically intensive applications in managed programming languages is finally here: www.noisecradle.com Runs really nicely. I wonder if it would be any better if it was written in C++?

You've been able to do graphically intensive applications in managed programming languages for some time now :) .

A c++ port may be slightly (emphasis on slightly) faster, but it'd likely also be harder to use, debug, and maintain. It's all about pros and cons.

I agree you've been able to pull this sort of thing off for a while. Not just using OpenGL either, check out MDX 1.1/SlimDX/XNA/MOGRE. And for video take a look at DirectShowNet VMR9 examples.
