i've been looking into getting started with assembly, just to expand my knowledge. I just downloaded winAsm, which is an Assembly IDE, and i'm using MASN 9 that came with VS2008, and i'm looking through this tutorial, but the program crashes, its very simple and does nothing at all, but i just want to start small, does anyone have an idea of why this is crashing? ;DOSSEG <- I commented this out because it causes a warning .MODEL LARGE .STACK 100h .DATA .CODE _START: INT 20 END _START

Add "h" after INT 20. (20 = 14h, meaning you're sending a command to the serial port instead of instructing the program to close. The interrupt you want is 32 (20h))

Interrupts are pretty complex if you are just starting assembly - perhaps better to get the basics out of the way first. I would suggest learning to do math, loops, manipulate arrays and call functions (scanf, printf) before attempting interrupts/syscalls/whatever-they-are-called-on-windows.
