# Calculating Normals with Tensor Product

I don't know if this makes any sense, but from what I've read, its possible to calculate the normal to a surface using the tensor product. Does anyone know how that works? I understand that the tensor product gives you a NxN matrix from 2 vectors, but what would you do with the resulting matrix in order to recover a normal to the surface? I'm assuming you have two vectors that you would normally just use a crossproduct on in order to find the normal (I also think its possible to just use a single vector and calculate the tensor with itself to obtain the same result). Any help,replies,insight is much appreciated. Thanks in advanced anyone.
