SDL sound delays by about half a second

I have a gut feeling that this is beyond repair... every time I play a sound (let's say after shooting a bullet) it will only play after about half a second... obviously this makes the game unplayable with sound... Anyone have any ideas at all? I'm using just the bare bones: http://lazyfoo.net/SDL_tutorials/lesson11/index.php And my sounds are all preloaded into a resource template before the game runs.

I had this same problem; I reset the buffer size to 1024, and this problem was gone (in win32).
