Sorry, I meant, what difference would it make? Is this how you would make 0 straight up? How does it work this way?

I rate users. Its just not having much impact as my rating is low...

Take a look at the graphs of sin(θ) and cos(θ) and you'd see that they are the same shape, but shifted by 90°. That is; sin(θ) = cos(θ-90°) (and cos(θ) = sin(θ+90°)).
