Trying to learn DX for C++
Hello all, well; I've been working on my C++ programming skills, I would consider myself intermediate, and I want to start learning DirectX for C++ I don't want to learn about 3D crap but I want to learn how to draw
24bit pixel sprites on a 32bit surface, and all that jazz. But I don't want to use DirectDraw since it is so out of date. Can someone please, suggest some places that I can learn this type of stuff
Thanks in advance
You'll probably want to check out ID3DXSprite (or ID3DX10Sprite if you're aiming for DX10). They make working with 2D sprites relatively easy. You'll still have to deal with initializing D3D on your own, though. I'd check out some of the tutorials in the SDK or online to see how to do the basic setup.
ARC, check out this site:

I would do the tutorials "Windows Primer" and "Initializing Direct3D." This is where I learned my first DirectX. Then, like MJP says, you can use ID3DXSprite to draw sprites.
Good luck. :)
