trouble loading .x mesh

Hey all, I'm following the tutorials at directxtutorials.com and I am able to load the mesh the guys provides you with just fine. but when i try to load my own it comes out with all the different parts all rotated and positioned wrong, like this http://www.coldredwood.info/dxmeshup.jpg it's supposed to be a motorcycle, but obviously it, uh, doesn't look like one. I'm using 3ds max with kilo-Watt exporter. I'm thinking this may an export problem or the way the model has been built, but I thought i'd ask here anyways, maybe some has seen this problem and can recognize it? Thanks.
