Where to start with Visual Basic Programming???
Hello, I am new to GameDev and I am also new to Visual Basic Programming. I've done a little programming with QBasic at my Highschool, I was able to make a pretty decent pong game, but thats about it, but I am now looking to step it up to Visual Basic and eventually C++ and/or C#.
So here is my problem, I am having a hard time finding any good websites or books on Visual Basic programming. Does anyone know of any good sites or books on beginning Visual Basic programming???
Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
I like your quote
using google these are the links I were able to find
http://www.vbexplorer.com/VBExplorer/game_tutorials.asp
http://blogs.msdn.com/coding4fun/archive/2006/11/02/938703.aspx
Also I would look into searching for any libraries, API's that uses VB as the language that eases the process of coding games.
Good Luck!

Quote:but I am now looking to step it up to Visual Basic and eventually C++ and/or C#Just start with C# and make your life so much easier. Learning C# doesn't have VB as a requirement. Don't learn C++. Not until you know enough to properly choose whether to learn C++ or not.
i agree with oler1s. i have never used VB before but i do know that learnign c# is very easy and alot of fun. i do however disagree with the 'not learning c++' statement. learning c++ is not as difficult as everybody makes it out to be. it was the first language i learnt and after the first few days things just sorta fell into place. it also makes learning any other language a massive breeze because you will already know the OO stuff so you can just concentrate on the language specifics.
but i digress.
here are some websites i found:
http://www.devdos.com/vb/
http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorials/Visual-Basic/1
http://cuinl.tripod.com/tutorials.htm
and if you are feeling adventurous and want to try some game programming:
www.riemers.net
i love that site :)

incorrect. c++ helps you learn lisp, prolog, ruby, python just by learning the language specifics?
C++ is complicated, but it is not the most complex language. in terms of features it is light years behind.

You could probably jump right into C#. Its not as nice as basic in some respects but its very much a standard for a lot of different types of applications. From there you will be comfortable with the syntax for Java or C++.
C++ adds a lot of its own syntax to the mix once you start using it but it still can resemble C# in most ways.
