reading sound and x Models from memory

This may sound simple enough but I honestly have NO idea how to even approach this. What I'm doing is reading in data from a bunch of files and packaging them all into one file and then in another program I need to read in that one package file and display the contents accordingly. So far I have textures and text files working perfectly fine but I can't find a single function anywhere along the lines of D3DXCreateTextureFromFileInMemory() for either sound files or to load X mesh files. Does anyone know any tutorials or can point me to some way of loading those files from something that's already in memory? I need to turn this in next Monday for my final in this class so anything soon would be a great help, thanks!
