I am rendering some graphics in OpenGL to a window using C++ and the Glut library. In the main function, the calls associated to Glut are:
  glutInit(&argc, argv);
  glutInitDisplayMode (GLUT_SINGLE | GLUT_RGB);
  glutInitWindowSize (500, 500);
  glutInitWindowPosition (100, 100);
  glutCreateWindow (argv[0]);
  init ();

  // Set up the display, reshape, idle and keyboard function.
  glutDisplayFunc(display);
  glutReshapeFunc(reshape);
  glutIdleFunc(idle);
  glutKeyboardFunc(keyboard);
  glutMainLoop();
I wish to record the content of the window using Fraps or some other screen recorder. However Fraps does not seem to be able to detect that it is an OpenGL window. I assume this is because I fail to set some state or similar. Does anybody know what should be necessary for Fraps to detect the window? Suggestions about alternative screen recorders that can record OpenGL are also welcome.

Perhaps it's because you don't double buffer?
Try
glutInitDisplayMode (GLUT_DOUBLE | GLUT_RGBA | GLUT_DEPTH);
