WaveFront's OBJ Format question
Hi Good Friends,
Recently I knew about the OBJ format for 3d models. Is it supports grouping of objects? For example if i have a model of wheel , it could have two parts, rim and tire. Wheel - > rim
- > Tire
-> Other etc.
This is like a hierarchy information.
Is Obj supports to store hierarchy information of models ?
Any idea ?
Thanks ,
KD
Wikipedia's explanation.
OBJ is a pretty simple format, so no, it doesn't support grouping multiple objects as far as I know.

obj files do support grouping yes. look for the 'g' flag. Maya exports this correctly, but it doesn't give you any transform data, so the groups are fairly useless.....
This loader supports the loading of groups, but you're better off looking for a different file format to be honest. Maya has the rtg file format, which is a bit basic, but does provide the actual transform data you need. Alternatively
dotXsi/Fbx/Collada -> YourFileConverter -> YourOwnFormat -> YourOwnLoader
