can anyone point me toward any resources that would help me custom draw a treeview control? I subclassed it with SetWindowLong, and overrode the WM_PAINT procedure, but aside from BeginPaint and EndPaint I have no idea how to draw the thing! How do I know what to display?

Your best bet is http://www.codeguru.com or http://www.codeproject.com.

Anyway, for drawing the items you "just" need to iterate through the HTREEITEMS (it's a lot of small things to do).
Best to look at both those sites.

All codeguru, codeproject , etc... samples are copied from MSDN.
See MSDN samples, there are tons of complete and detailed samples (KB, PSDK, etc)
