D3DVertexBuffer8GetData and collision detection

i used D3DVertexBuffer8GetData to get the vertices of a mesh but when i translate it, the vertices are the same, so i'm a bit confused, how would i check for collision if it's always the same? And I tried with 2 objects and both stay the same when i translate either of them. I'm doing this in vb6 and directx 8 thanks
