Hello everyone, I'd like to hear your recommendations on articles and resources that cover multiplayer networking on an abstract level. I'm not looking for socket programming tutorials, or nitty gritty implementation details; stuff that goes over the entire network model for different types of multiplayer genres. I'd like read about how they developed their datastructures and protocols, and how it all fit within the scope of the game itself. If you've seen resources that cover game networking on this level, please let me know! Thanks!

There are a few articles, especially on the three big FPS engines:
Quake III
Unreal
Source
I think at least two of them are linked from the Forum FAQ.
