shadow volume problem

hi I want to use shadow volume (stencil) in my game, I use D3D9 and use the same code as stencil shadow volume in D3D9 C++ samples, when I use the plane model (model used in the sample) I think the shadow is fine but when I use my own models it seems that shadow is not made correctly, some strange shapes are made and almost nothing is drawing on the ground (only something like a thick wireframe of the model are displayed), what's the problem, I use 3D MAX 9 for modelling, where is the problem? is there any problem in my modeling? any special tip? thanks for your help
