1)How can I stop an object receiving events? I have a background on top of which other objects are placed. I want mouse-clicks to go straight to the background, but they get intercepted if you click on top of one of the objects. 2)In Flex, you can set the "click" attribute of an MXML control, like a button e.g click="onClick()". But in AS, you have to add listeners which take parameters... so how is this done? MXML is just AS wrapped up nicely, so why can't I see a "click" property on the controls I add?

Here is a pretty nice article on the Flex event model, and how to intercept events. It also covers how to use addEventListener from AS code. Hope that helps!
