.3ds file format (color in object)

http://www.jalix.org/ressources/graphics/3DS/_unofficials/3ds-info.txt According to the file format description in the URL above, it says that the object has a color at 0x4165, but all that it contains is just a byte. What is that byte value? An index to an array of 4-byte color values?
