how does zdaemon do its networking if you havent played it basically there are mods that have hundreds of monsters all in one room with them shooting and 16 other players all shooting plasma rifles that fire 5-6 rounds a second. they cant be using the "1000 archers" approach because there is client side prediction and instant hit weapons such as shotgun. im thinking more of a quake style approach but i am not sure how they are doing this with so many players and monsters. also, how do they network things such as elevators going up and down?

I don't know that game, but from the description, I can think of a few things:

1) Use 1,000 archers, but hide the latency by lying in the drawing

2) Draw remote entities a lot later than "real" time

3) Trust each client, and don't require too much precision in what other people are doing

Honestly, from the description, it sounds like they might be doing 3).
