ShadowVolume C++ July 2004 (is z-failed algorithm)

Does the ShadowVolume(C++ July 2004) in the DirectX Sample Browser use the z-failed algorithm (or the z-pass algorithm)?

The version is sample of shadow volume's version, no DirectX.
I use DirectX 9.0 now.So I use the shader 3.0.
Do you know what is my question or your have a answer?
