are there any good tutorials on this topic? i found some articles about singletons and simillar things but are there any "in depth" or "larger" articles on this subject on the net? something that would sum up more than just one or two patterns?

I swear, this forum must be allergic to singletons. When applied correctly, singletons are as object-oriented as you can get.
