OpenGL Point sprites with shaders

Hi From a background in DX I'm relatively new to OpenGL, so this might be a stupid question. Is it possible to run shaders on point sprites? I would like to take advantage of the point sprites simplicity and hw optimization capabilities and at the same time use a more intricate processing than fixed function. Thanks

i dont see why not,
though u will have to deal with the limitations of point sprites
eg limited to a max size, the whole poly getting culled if the center is offscreen, texture coords etc
