Hey guyz. I want to make a program that will procedurally generate a texture for a heightmap. the question is how do i manipulate the bitmap file(s) with c++? i mean i just need to load file, manipulate the pixels, and save the result in another file. so... how do i load / save bmp's manually? (without any 3rd pty libs) and i know, there probably are other apps that do this, but i want to reinvent the wheel this time :D getting a bit rusty so a little practice would do some good:)

Look at boost::gil, they've done some really good work there and have loaders/savers for a lot of formats as plugins if you want. If you want to image manipulation in a format independent fashion it is almost a must have.

Documentation here.
